Boekenhoutskloof was estasblished in 1776 and is situated in the outermost corner of the beautiful Franschhoek ward. The farm’s name means “Ravine of the Boekenhout”. Boekenhout is the name of an indigenous Cape beech tree which is well suited to the production of furniture.

Boekenhoutskloof is one of the oldest wine estates established by the Huguenots. The landscape and the wines in particular exemplify France. Winemaker Mark Kent travels to France each year seeking inspiration for his wines. In 2003 the reputable English wine magazine, Decanter, declared his 2001 vintage Semillon as being the Best New World White. The 20 hectares of farm land of which Boekenhoutskloof is comprised was purchased in 1993 and fully restored. New vineyards were established in optimal growing sites which today include plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Grenache, Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc.

Mark Kent has set a benchmark in wine marketing with the release of Boekenhoutskloof Chocolate Block, an assemblage of Shiraz and a certain something. His Porcupine Ridge Syrah is an prime display of value for money and is made from grapes sourced from outer lying wine growing regions in the Cape.
